How long does it take to heal after a hair transplant?
Like a beautiful face and perfect body, people care for their hair too. They believe that looks depend on your hair. The more beautiful the hair is, more beautiful are your looks. But sometimes, people face issues related to their hair such as baldness, lack of hair growth, injury in the head, etc. To cope up with such situations, they go for hair transplant surgery where doctors remove the scalp from their head and use the already existing hair to fill the hair having less or no hair.
Hair transplant surgery is a very common surgery that people usually go for. This is because it is less risky and lengthy. It took approximately 4 to 8 hours and people can go for another procedure later on if required. But after the surgery, your scalp may be tender and that is why you will be needed to take pain medications for some days.
You might also get bandages to wear over the scalps from your surgeons for at least two to four days. Surgeons prescribe Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. After calculating all these things, usually, it took two to three weeks for people to return to their work after a hair transplant.
Though you will notice that the transplanted hair will fall out after some week but new hair growth can also be seen after 6 to 9 months. Thus it does not take much time to heal after a hair transplant. You can take several measures to recover from hair transplants faster. These measures include washing your hairs daily. After a hair transplant, it is possible that crusting takes place in your head. Washing your hair every day will help you to get rid of crusting and you will feel comfortable. Following surgery, the first wash is done by doctors and experts once the swelling disappears. After that, you must wash your hair regularly as per the instructions given by doctors to reduce crusting at the minimum level.
Moreover, after hair transplantation, there are some other things that you must follow to heal in a better way. These things include:
- Rest at home as much you can
- Wearing comfortable clothes especially button worn. Avoid t-shirts and go for shirts
- Consume sufficient water daily
- Take antibiotics in hours prescribed by a surgeon
- Try to sleep on the back
- Do not leave your head wet for a longer time. After washing your hair, dry it as soon as possible
- Keep your head upright for at least 3 days
- Take healthy, heavy, rich and fibrous food
Though it takes 6 to 9 months to heal from hair transplant, yet following some preventive measures can help you to recover faster. After the two weeks of the surgery, the process of healing raw areas starts. It is known as the shock shedding period. It lasts for almost 1 to 2 months and is an important time to take care of your hair. You will observe shedding of the transplanted hair during this period and the growth of new hair as well. Hence, recovery depends on the care and type of surgery you have gone through. By the eight-month, you will find your hair growing normally and the change will be immediately noticeable. At the end of one year, you will get a new look with natural, healthy, and bushier hair.
